Lamona LAM2951 90cm Stainless Steel Compact Motor Ceiling Cooker Hood

A flush ceiling extractor, 868mm wide, that disappears into the ceiling above an island instead of hanging over it. Nothing drops into your eyeline and nothing interrupts the sightline across the room — which is the whole reason to spend this much on extraction.

This is the compact motor version, and its advantage over the cubic-motor LAM2952 is depth: the panel is only 195mm deep against the LAM2952's 319mm, so it needs materially less ceiling void. If your void is tight, this is the one that fits.

Before you order — a ceiling hood is a building job, not an appliance swap

• Ceiling cut-out: 485mm × 845mm. Plan to this figure.
• Ceiling thickness must be between 18mm and 35mm. Outside that range the fixing will not work.
• Height above the hob: minimum 650mm over gas, minimum 600mm over electric, maximum 1600mm over either. Above 1600mm it will not capture effectively.
• The outlet is rectangular, 89mm × 222mm. This is the one to read twice. Howdens publish no duct size at all on their web specification — we took this from their installation manual for this exact model. The manual adds that the 89 × 222mm exhaust “can be transferred to a circular duct of Ø150mm at a later stage”, so a round 150mm run is possible but needs a transition piece. If you want a straightforward circular 150mm outlet, the LAM2952 has one natively and costs the same.

Installation

Ceiling mounted and ducted externally. Because it carries its own weight from the ceiling structure, this is a job to plan with your fitter before the ceiling is closed up rather than afterwards. We can send you the Howdens installation manual on request — on this product we would encourage it.

Three things on Howdens' own data, stated plainly

Howdens' model number field shows a factory code, not a Lamona code. Their specification reads Model Number: 6810-P6B4. Every Howdens document for this product — the installation manual cover, its technical specification table and the shared user manual — says LAM2951, and the code 6810-P6B4 appears in none of them. Buy on the product code. You may still see the factory code on the rating plate.

Howdens' lighting row is mislabelled. Their page says Light Wattage (Per Bulb): 8W with four lights, which would be 32W. All three Howdens manuals say 4 × 2W LED — so 8W is the total, not the per-bulb figure. We have quoted the manual. Their page also gives a colour temperature range of 2700K–4000K where the manuals say a fixed 2700K, so we would not rely on the lights being tunable.

We are not sure this model can recirculate, and we are not going to claim it can. Howdens list Venting Type: External only, yet also carry a row saying a carbon filter is required for recirculation and not included — and their installation manual names no carbon filter part for this model at all, where the LAM2952's manual names one. Treat this as a ducted hood. If recirculating is your only option, talk to us first and consider the LAM2952 instead, which is explicitly rated for both.

LAM2951 or LAM2952?

They cost the same and share a chassis, a width and a depth. The LAM2952 is the better appliance on paper — A+ against B, 46dB against 51dB, a native Ø150mm circular outlet, and it is explicitly rated for recirculation as well as ducting. Choose this LAM2951 for one reason: it is 124mm shallower (195mm against 319mm), so it fits a ceiling void that the LAM2952 will not. If your void is deep enough, buy the LAM2952.
