SKU LAM9100

The Lamona LAM9100 is a built-in bean-to-cup coffee machine with a burr grinder, a 15 bar pump, a 200g bean container and a 1.8 litre removable water tank, behind a touch-control fascia in black. It grinds whole beans to order, and it will also take pre-ground coffee if you would rather.

Howdens supply the trade only. Without a trade account you cannot buy a Lamona appliance direct. We hold the account, so you can buy it here.

Before you order: the housing, and one number we want to flag

Howdens publish a Minimum Cabinet Size of 600mm and an installation aperture of 450mm high x 592mm wide x 550mm deep. The appliance body is 450mm high, 594mm wide and 510mm deep.

We want to be straight with you about those figures. The published aperture width of 592mm is 2mm narrower than the appliance's own published body width of 594mm, and the aperture height of 450mm is exactly equal to the body height. As printed, that leaves no clearance at all, and on a well-behaved built-in you would expect the fascia to overhang the aperture by a good deal more than that. One of those rows is very likely mis-keyed on Howdens' side.

Treat the 600mm minimum cabinet size as the figure that matters, build to a standard 600mm housing with a 450mm aperture, and read the installation manual before cutting. If you are building the cabinetry from scratch, contact us first and we will get the confirmed aperture from Howdens in writing. We would rather tell you this now than have you cut a hole 2mm too small.

It has a fitted plug - 1350W at 6A on a 1.75m lead - so unlike a built-in oven it needs a socket, not an electrician. Make sure there is a spare socket in the cabinet behind it.

What we would tell you in the showroom

  • A burr grinder, not a blade grinder. Burrs crush the bean to an even particle size, which is the single biggest factor in whether the coffee tastes like coffee or like disappointment.
  • Beans or pre-ground. Useful if someone in the house drinks decaf - you can put ground decaf in without emptying the bean hopper.
  • 15 bar pump pressure and an integrated frothing nozzle, so milk drinks are done on the machine rather than in a separate jug.
  • A hot water spout, which means tea and americanos without boiling a kettle.
  • A 1.8 litre removable tank. Removable is the right answer for a built-in - you fill it at the sink rather than pouring water into a machine at chest height. Note it is tank-fed, not plumbed: no water connection required, but the tank does need filling.
  • Eight programmes, six-cup capacity, LCD display and touch controls, with an internal grounds container so the puck bin lives inside the machine.

Three things we are not going to claim

The drinks list. Howdens publish a count of eight programmes but never name the eight drinks. We are not going to invent a menu. Ask us and we will get the list from the depot.

The 66cm in the trade catalogue. Howdens' trade description calls this a 66cm coffee machine. Nothing on Howdens' own product page says 66cm or 660mm anywhere - the figures they publish are a 600mm minimum cabinet, a 450mm aperture height and a 594mm body width. We are querying it. It does not affect the product identity - this is the only Lamona coffee machine and the product code matches exactly - but if you are planning a cabinet run around a 660mm dimension, do not.

A water filter. Howdens' specification says Filter Type: No Filters and Descale: Manual. This machine has no water filter and needs descaling by hand. In a hard water area that is a real maintenance job, and it is the honest reason to buy a jug filter for the tank.

One curiosity in Howdens' data, mentioned so you are not confused if you see it: their page carries a stray Oven Cleaning: Manual row on a coffee machine. It is a template artefact and we have left it out.
