The Lamona LAM8881 is a 6kg integrated heat pump tumble dryer in graphite - mechanically identical to the white LAM8880, in a darker finish that matches the graphite Lamona laundry range. A heat pump dries at a much lower temperature than a vented or condenser machine: 600W of power draw against the 2.5kW or more a conventional dryer pulls, and much gentler on the clothes.

White or graphite? We have checked Howdens' specification for both codes line by line. Every value is identical except the colour - same 6kg drum, same 15 programmes, same A+ rating, same 39kg, same dimensions, same three-year guarantee. Choose purely on the finish. Since this is an integrated machine that lives behind a cabinet door, the finish only shows on the fascia and the drum surround.
Before you order
It is a 6kg drum, not a 9kg one. Paired with a 9kg washing machine you will be splitting a full wash into two dries. Good for a small household or a medium family; not the machine if you regularly wash bedding for a full house.
It collects water in a tank that needs emptying. There is a full-tank indicator. Howdens publish no plumbed-drain option for this model - if you want it to drain away instead, ask us before ordering and we will check the installation manual with the depot.

The aperture, and one figure worth checking
Howdens publish an installation aperture of 827mm high x 596mm wide x 575mm deep. The depth is fine, but the published aperture height and width are identical to the appliance's own body dimensions - 827mm and 596mm. A real cabinet opening needs a few millimetres of tolerance, so we read those two as body dimensions rather than a genuine aperture.
Build to a standard 600mm integrated appliance housing and check the installation manual before you cut anything. Ask us and we will send it over.
What we would tell you in the showroom
- Sensor drying. It measures how damp the load is and stops when the clothes are dry rather than running a fixed time - saves energy and stops towels drying to cardboard.
- A self-cleaning condenser filter. On a heat pump this is the part that otherwise clogs and quietly halves efficiency. A genuine advantage.
- Fifteen programmes, an iron-dry setting and an anti-crease phase so a load can sit without setting into creases.
- A delay timer, so it can run on a cheaper overnight tariff.
- 67dB - unobtrusive behind a utility door, audible in an open-plan kitchen.
- No childlock on this model.
Three honest notes on Howdens' published data
The energy figures. Howdens publish Energy Consumption Per 100 Cycles - Drying: 243kWh and Estimated Annual Energy Consumption: 243kWh. Those are different measures and cannot both be 243kWh - one row is duplicated in their data. Both are reproduced as published and we have queried it. The A+ energy class is solid, confirmed by the energy label on Howdens' own page. Note that tumble dryers are still rated on the older A+++ to D scale, so A+ here is not directly comparable with an A on a modern washing machine label.
The colour on the paperwork. This appliance is graphite. Its attached energy label document is titled Black and its fiche document is titled White. Howdens are loose with those three words in their own paperwork. The product is graphite, per the product page and the specification.
What we have left out. Howdens' specification names only four drying programmes - Cottons, Delicate, Wool and Extra Dry - against a headline count of fifteen, so we cannot tell you what the other eleven are. Ask us and we will get the full programme list.
