The Lamona LAM8880 is a 6kg integrated heat pump tumble dryer that hides behind a matching cabinet door. A heat pump dries at a much lower temperature than a vented or condenser machine, which means 600W of power draw against the 2.5kW or more a conventional dryer pulls - and much gentler treatment of the clothes.

Before you order
It is a 6kg drum, not a 9kg one. Pair it with a 9kg washing machine and you will be splitting a full wash load into two dries. Howdens rate it for a small household or a medium family, and we would agree with that. If you routinely wash bedding for a full house, this is not the machine.
It collects water in a tank, and the tank needs emptying. There is a full-tank indicator. Howdens publish no plumbed-drain option for this model - if you want it to drain away rather than being emptied by hand, ask us before you order and we will check the installation manual with the depot.

The aperture, and one figure worth checking
Howdens publish an installation aperture of 827mm high x 596mm wide x 575mm deep. The depth is fine, but note that the published aperture height and width are identical to the appliance's own body dimensions - 827mm and 596mm. A real cabinet opening needs a few millimetres of tolerance, so we read those two figures as body dimensions rather than a true aperture.
Build to a standard 600mm integrated appliance housing and check the installation manual before you cut anything. Ask us and we will send it. We would rather say this plainly than hand you a figure that leaves the door catching.
What we would tell you in the showroom
- Sensor drying. It measures how damp the load is and stops when the clothes are dry, rather than running a fixed time. Saves energy and stops you over-drying towels into cardboard.
- A self-cleaning condenser filter, which on a heat pump is the part that otherwise clogs and quietly halves the machine's efficiency. This is a real advantage.
- Fifteen programmes, with an iron-dry setting and an anti-crease phase so a load can sit for a while without setting into creases.
- A delay timer, so it can run on a cheaper overnight tariff.
- 67dB. Behind a cabinet door in a utility that is unobtrusive; in an open-plan kitchen you will hear it.
- No childlock on this model - worth knowing if there are toddlers about.
Two honest notes on Howdens' published figures
The energy figures. Howdens publish Energy Consumption Per 100 Cycles - Drying: 243kWh and Estimated Annual Energy Consumption: 243kWh. Those are two different measures and they cannot both be 243kWh - one of the two rows is duplicated in their data. We have reproduced both as published rather than pick one, and we have queried it. The A+ energy class is solid, and confirmed by the energy label on Howdens' own page.
On comparing energy labels: tumble dryers are still rated on the older A+++ to D scale, so this machine's A+ is not directly comparable with the A on a modern washing machine label. Different scales, not different quality.
What we have left out. Howdens' description claims five temperature settings and a 24-hour delay start. Neither figure appears anywhere in their specification, so we have not repeated them. Their specification also names only four drying programmes - Cottons, Delicate, Wool and Extra Dry - against a headline count of fifteen, so we cannot tell you what the other eleven are.
