A trade-only appliance, available here without a trade account. Lamona is Howdens' own brand and Howdens supply the building trade only, so you cannot buy this hob direct as a member of the public. We can, and we deliver it to your door.
The LAM1840 is a frameless black induction hob with four zones, fourteen power levels and a power boost. It is designed to sit flush, and the controls are on the right hand side rather than the front, which keeps the glass clear across the width. Pan detection, a residual heat indicator, a hob-on indicator, a child lock and an automatic safety shut-off are all built in.
The zones are deliberately different sizes. From the Howdens manual: left front 2300W rising to 3700W on boost for 180 to 210mm pans; left rear 1800W rising to 2800W for 145 to 180mm pans; right front 1400W rising to 2500W for 125 to 145mm pans; and right rear 2300W rising to 3200W, taking anything from 145mm up to 265mm, which is the zone for an oval dish or a large casserole.
Before you order, four things to check
- It needs a dedicated 32A circuit. Maximum input is 7200W at 220 to 240V and it is hard wired, with a 1.5m lead and no plug fitted. This is not a 13A socket appliance. Budget for an electrician and a new circuit unless you are replacing a like-for-like induction hob.
- The worktop cut-out is 560mm wide by 490mm deep, and the hob itself is 580mm wide, not the usual 595mm. That leaves only about 10mm of glass overlapping the worktop on each side. If you are replacing an older 595mm hob and the existing aperture is worn, oversized or chipped at the edge, the smaller glass may not cover it. Measure before you order.
- Minimum worktop thickness is 28mm. That is thicker than many laminate worktops, which are commonly 22 to 25mm. Howdens publish no maximum. If your worktop is under 28mm this hob will not fit it.
- Flush fitting needs a routed rebate, and Howdens do not publish the rebate dimensions. The 560 x 490mm figure above is the standard drop-in aperture. For a genuinely flush installation your worktop fabricator will need to set out the rebate, and neither the product page nor the manual gives a figure for it. Contact us and we will chase it from Howdens before you commit.
Cook&Connect. Howdens badge this hob's infrared feature Cook&Connect and describe it only as allowing seamless control. The Howdens manual documents the same feature under the name Hob2Hood: the hob and a compatible extractor each carry an infrared communicator, and the hob then sets the hood's fan speed and lighting automatically, with modes for boiling and for frying. Neither the product page nor the manual names a single compatible extractor, and we will not guess at one. If pairing it to a hood matters to you, ask us and we will confirm the compatible model with Howdens first.
