A 9kg, 1400rpm freestanding washing machine in white, rated A for energy. Nine kilos is a big drum — it is the size that stops a family of four running two loads where one would do, and it will take a double duvet.
Freestanding means water, waste and a socket, and nothing else: no cabinet door, no fascia, no aperture. You cannot buy Lamona without a Howdens trade account. We have one, so you can.
Read this first — the space it needs
The machine is 845mm high × 597mm wide × 582mm deep on four adjustable feet.
Howdens publish installation dimensions identical to the machine's own body — 845 × 597 × 582mm — which means they publish no clearance allowance at all. Treat those as body dimensions, not as a gap. In practice you want a gap a little wider than 597mm so the machine can be slid in and levelled, and real depth behind it for the inlet hose and the waste, which will add meaningfully to 582mm. Ask us for the installation manual before you build anything around it and we will send it.
What it does
15 programmes according to Howdens' specification row, of which they name thirteen: Cottons, Economy, Pre-Wash, Wool, Duvet, Handwash, Rinse, Allergy Safe, Fast60, Quick Wash, Colours, Dark Care and Spin and Drain. We are quoting both figures because they do not agree, and we are not going to name programmes Howdens have not named.
One thing we are deliberately not claiming: Howdens' own description of this machine advertises a "sports mode" for mud and grass. There is no sports or outdoor programme in its published programme list — the black FLM8703 has an "Outdoor" programme and this one does not, so the copy looks to have been written against the wrong model. If a sports or outdoor cycle is why you are buying, look at the black FLM8703 or ask us to confirm first.
There is a 12 minute quick wash, a delay timer (Howdens publish no maximum delay period, so we are not quoting one), a childlock, fuzzy logic, automatic load detection and unbalanced load detection. Temperature range is published as Cold to 90°C. The door opens to the right. It is a cold-fill machine and is supplied with a hose.
Running costs and noise
Energy rating A — the top of the current washing-machine scale — at 49kWh per 100 cycles. Howdens publish no annual consumption figure for this model, although they do for its black sibling; we have not borrowed that figure, because the two pages also disagree with each other on the per-100-cycles number and we do not know which is right.
It is a loud machine at 74dB, with a B noise rating. That is normal for a 1400rpm spin but worth knowing before you put it in an open-plan kitchen rather than a utility room.
The matching dryer
Pair this with the white FLM8803 9kg heat pump tumble dryer — same finish, same 9kg drum, so a full wash load dries in one go. One point of caution if you plan to stack them: Howdens' laundry stacking kits name only the black FLM8703 and FLM8802 in their compatibility data, and say nothing about the white pair. Ask us before you buy a kit and we will get that confirmed.
